Frequently Asked Questions

What kinds of pets do you groom?

We specialize primarily in dogs. Select services may be available for other species. Please contact us for more information and pricing.

Do you groom special needs pets?

Pets are individuals, just like people, and as such they each have different needs. We will evaluate every client and determine if there are special circumstances surrounding the grooming process. Accommodations can be made for pets with health concerns, fearfulness, anxiety, aggression and senior or very young pets. We will make every attempt to provide your pet with a safe and pleasant experience. We follow Fear Free certified practices and will always do what we feel is right for your pet's physical and emotional wellbeing.

Can I watch or help groom my pet?

For the safety of pets, pet owners, and our staff, we do not allow pet owners to assist in the grooming process. You are invited to watch the grooming with the understanding that some pets may have an easier time if their person isn’t present and are willing to leave the room if requested.

How long will an appointment take?

Most dogs can have a full service grooming appointment completed in 1-2 hours. We will provide you with an approximate collection time for your pet(s) at drop-off each visit. Please be prepared to collect your pet(s) within 30 minutes of service completion to avoid an extra stay fee.

Due to our commitment to work with pets according to their needs, some visits may take longer than expected. Extra time and handling of special needs pets (such as fearful, anxious, aggressive, senior, young pets, or those with matted/impacted/or heavily shedding coats, etc) may take longer. We will do our best to communicate our needs to clients before services are rendered, but we may need to adjust the collection time mid-groom. In that case, you will be informed via phone.

Will my pet be caged in your salon?

Diva Dog Grooming operates on a personal appointment basis, meaning that instead of waiting their turn for grooming in a cage all dogs are started immediately at their appointment time and worked with until completed.

Kennels may be utilized while your pet is waiting for you to pick them up, if they need to take a break, or while another dog in the household is being groomed.

If your pet has a cage/kennel that they are comfortable with, you are welcome to bring it and we will use it in lieu of our own pens/cages, if we determine it to be safe and secure. We will not be held liable for any damage or loss of personal use cages/kennels.

Can I bring comfort items for my pet?

You are welcome to bring comfort items for your pet(s), such as treats, toys, blankets, beds, or personal use containment equipment such as a cage, kennel, or travel bag.
We welcome any item that may help your pet feel happy and secure.
Please note that we cannot be held liable for the damage or loss of any personal items left with pets.

Can I bring my own shampoo or other grooming products?

We are happy to use a client provided shampoo or other grooming products.

While we stock a number of coat and skin specific products, we recognize that you may have a product that you prefer or that has been recommended or prescribed to your pet by it's vet/breeder/etc.

Please note the following policies:

  • Client provided products can be returned each visit or we will label the product with your name and hold it for use on your pet.

  • All client provided products will be labeled for the appropriate animal species.

  • Prescription products will be used only for the animal for which it has been prescribed.

  • All products will be used according to manufacturer or prescription recommendations.

  • No flea/tick or other pesticide products will be accepted or applied.

Do you do anal glands or teeth?

While many groomers have traditionally offered anal gland expression and teeth cleaning services, we at Diva Dog believe that these are best handled by your veterinarian.

It is our belief that anal glands in dogs should not need manual expression unless there is an underlying medical necessity. This medical necessity should be addressed by a veterinarian.

In the event that your veterinarian has recommended your dog have anal gland expressions performed during grooming appointments we will attempt to express them EXTERNALLY. If the glands do not empty easily or the process seems to cause your dog any discomfort we will refer you to your veterinarian.

Rabbit anal scent glands often collect a solid, waxy build-up. Robin is experienced in rabbit husbandry, and can clean this build-up safely. Please call us to discuss this service.

Dental health should be addressed regularly by both the pet parent and their veterinarian. While we do offer toothbrushing, we can only provide this service to dogs with good dental health. Brushing the teeth of a dog with dental decay, gum disease, or other dental health issues can be painful or even make matters worse. We do have some dental health retail items available for you to use at home, and will be happy to discuss their use with you.

Do you require vaccinations?

In accordance with City of Duluth law, all dogs, cats, and ferrets over the age of 6 months must have a current rabies vaccination. A rabies certificate or veterinary vaccination record must be provided before services are rendered.

While we make every effort to reduce  your pets' exposure to disease and parasites while in our salon, we cannot guarantee that their visit is risk-free. For the safety of your pet, we recommend discussing an appropriate vaccination and parasite prevention protocol with your veterinarian before bringing your pet into the salon.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, check, credit/debit cards, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
Returned checks will incur a $12 service charge.
